Ultimate Reset Cleanse Results


I wanted to share my results from my 21 day ultimate reset cleanse that my husband and I started on January 1st with a few friends. I’m  down 16.5 pounds myself and my husband is down 19 pounds!  I am also down 13.25 inches and 3.5 total in my waist!!! My thighs are also 2 inches smaller and I can really tell there! Funny my hips stayed the same, but my booty is my best feature and I feel very toned there now!  I don’t feel like I lost muscle doing this at all, in fact I really toned up my arms, doing daily beginners yoga!

Clean Eating: The Key to Weight Loss

How many of you have tried to lose weight and completely failed on the eating part? I’ve always had the fitness part down 100%! As a matter of fact, I ran 2 marathons over a year ago in a 3 week time period and trained running about 20 miles+ a week for 5 months prior to that. I literally lost like 2-3 pound over that time and was stuck about 20 pounds overweight and really not that toned for how much I was exercising. I ate o.k. hence I was 5’7″ and weighed 165-170 pounds, not 200 pounds. But I still was lacking energy & confidence.  I’ve literally worked out for almost 20 years pretty intensely because I lost 50 pounds when I was 18 year old doing activities like running, spinning, cardio and more, but always struggled with the eating part. I’d never believed you needed the eating part to be 100% or that eating clean would help you gain muscle but boy was I wrong. Enter the 21 day containers!

And I’m not alone, most people really struggle with the eating part, not knowing what to eat or how much of it to eat and it’s a daunting task!

Also…I’d tried programs like weight watchers and low fat diets, but I was consuming so many artificial sweeteners and fake unpronounceable ingredients that I think it was confusing my body and doing damage to myself and my weight loss efforts.

So let me tell you what’s worked really well for me since February. The 21 day fix portion containers have worked wonders. No matter what workout program I’m doing, these keep me totally on track! And it’s because I’m eating real food, it’s a lot of food, and it’s eating clean 80-90% of the time. They don’t tell you to eat anything fake or artificial, in fact I purchase full fat yogurt and cottage cheese now and have managed to stay at or close to my goal weight and feel pretty great for 7 months now and keep at it.

So the plan is really quite awesome and easy to follow. You get the cups below and an eating plan that tells you an extensive list of foods to eat and how many of them you get each day. And then when you get to your weight goal, you add in more food cups for maintenance, it’s that simple.

For example, I get the following 21 day fix containers per day for weight loss and I weigh 145 pounds and am 5’7″ tall:

  • red (protein)- 4 a day
  • green (veggies)- 4 a day
  • purple (fruit)- 2 a day
  • orange (dressings & seeds)- 1 a day
  • blue (cheese, nuts, avocado, coconut)- 1 a day
  • yellow (starches/carbs/wine/treats)- 2 a day

There are also recipes and a cookbook Beachbody sells that will tell you how many cups recipes count as. And Beachbody makes an iPhone app called the 21 day tracker to easily track what you are eating. You can buy these containers separately or they come with many workout programs like Country Heat, 21 Day Fix, 21 Day fix extreme and more!

Anyhow, I feel like I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t share this revolutionary eating plan with you, it’s so easy to follow, I just measure my cups, bring them to work or put them on a plate and I’m good to go, and I love it!

And this is what happens when you follow the containers with a 30 minute workout, I didn’t have to run 20+ miles a week to do this and it floors me.

Hammer & Chisel Results


Hammer and Chisel: Lost 3 Inches!

I started the Master’s of Hammer  and Chisel 60 days ago on 4/13/17. I’m super proud because I’m so much stronger. I started with about 12 pound weights for squats and 15 pounds for bench press. I ended up at about 22-25 pounds for squats and 22.5 to 25 for the bench press on each side! I actually gained 1.8 pounds of muscle and lost 3 inches total. But look at how much more toned I am, weight doesn’t’ matter ladies, it’s all about how your package fits into that weight and one person that weighs 149 can look like they weigh 140, another can look like they weigh 170. Muscle weighs more than fat. I’m feeling great in my skin!  I look way more toned in my stomach and now have a cheeky glutes! They look funny to me, because they are super round, but I know they are just so much more toned. I did have a few summer parties in here and some beer, but ate clean 95% of the time. I probably could have done a little better, but hey I’m not perfect. But overall I really loved this program! It’s easy to do and I love Sagi and Autumn together in the workouts, they tease eachother and are so much fun!

Clean Eating Dinner Ideas

Clean & Healthy Dinners and Meals

I’m always wondering what can I make for dinner that is healthy, clean and quick? Like super quick because I work full time, am a Beachbody coach, am married and have 2 daughters who are very active in sports. Below are some example and pictures of meals I made that were quick and easy. They are clean and all are compatible with the 21 Day Fix Program!

Easy Tomato and Sausage Soup with Blue Cheese

This is so easy, I heated up some organic Trader Joe’s tomato soup (the kind in the box), or you can use any kind, just check the label to make sure it doesn’t have too many additives. I put a turkey or chicken sausage in a pan that I got at the farmers market, cooked it for 5 minutes, sliced it up and put in my soup. I topped with 1/4 cup of blue cheese. Sometimes i drizzle with a tsp of olive oil. So yummy and easy!


Shrimp and Veggie Saute

This was super easy, my 9 year old daughter even helped! I took a bag of frozen divined (tail off) shrimp and ran under cold water for a few minutes. Then I put some olive oil or you can do butter (grass fed is amazing) and put a tbsp in the pan. I put in my shrimp and also one sliced up yellow and one red pepper, along with a handful of basil and parsley, salt and pepper. I sauteed on medium for a few minutes and served over brown rice! Easy meal that the whole family loved!


Sweet Potato Hash with a Salad and Over-easy Eggs!

O.k. this is to die for! I simply took about 4-5 sweet potatoes, and peeled and chopped them up.  Put them in a food processor and shred them up like a hashbrown. Then put like 2 tbsp of grass fed butter or olive oil in a pan on medium. Heat it up for a couple minutes and put your sweet potatoes in there with salt and pepper.  Cook for like 5 minutes and you’ll have an awesome side dish. I then cook 2 eggs over easy and put on top of my hashbrowns. I also put a salad on the side with mixed greens, peppers, green olives, sea salt and olive oil. It was so yummy,  like I was at a gourmet restaurant!


Easy Eggplant, Parmesan and Chicken Dinner

O.k. this was so easy too. Buy a bag of frozen eggplant or fresh if you have it. But the frozen is so easy. Simply put like a tbsp of olive oil in a pan over medium.   I make 2 servings at least for my hubby and I. Then put that in a pan to saute with some frozen chicken breast. I cook chicken breast in the slow cooker all day on low by tossing 2 pounds in a slow cooker with 3-4 cups of chicken broth. Then it shreds so easily after it cooks for 7-8 hours on low. I freeze half and put half in the fridge for salads.  So back to the eggplant dish, in the pan I place like a cup of chicken, 2 cups eggplant in the pan and saute with the olive oil. Then at the end I add 1/2 cup of fresh Parmesan cheese. Divide into 2 servings & serve it on a plate with a side salad or a few peppers shown here. So yummy! You could do this with mushrooms too or any veggie for that matter!


Easy Corn Tortilla Clean Tacos

Bring on Taco Tuesday! I utilize some of the frozen or fresh chicken you made from post above and simply take 2 corn tortillas, 1/2 cup of chicken, and put on the tortillas. Place 1 tbsp cheese on each tortilla if you like cheese. Then place a few mixed greens and tomatoes on them. You can also put salsa and guac on top of it. Avocodos are amazing for your health! I served with salsa and corn organic tortilla chips. Yum!


Slow Cooker Clean Picadallo Recipe

This is so yummy, I had to share it. It’s the  most complex recipe, but still easy because it’s minimal ingredients and cooks in your slow cooker all day 🙂  You’ve got to try it! Below I paired it with a yummy salad of coleslaw/kale mix!


  • 2 lbs extra lean ground beef
  • 1 c minced onion
  • 1 c diced bell peppers
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • ¼ c chopped cilantro
  • 1 small tomato
  • Diced 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • ¼ c green olives
  • 1.5 tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ ground garlic powder
  • 2 bay leaves

Directions : Brown meat in a large skillet on medium heat; season with Himalayan sea salt and pepper. Break up the meat into small pieces. When meat is cooked through; drain all liquid. Add onions, garlic, bell peppers to the meat and cook for 3-4 min. (This can be done the night before). Transfer the meat to the slow cooker then add tomato, cilantro, tomato sauce, olives and then add all the spices. Set slow cooker to HIGH for 3-4 hours or LOW for 6-8 ours. Discard the bay leaves and serve over brown rice.




Well now you are armed with a week or more of meals. I honestly cook like every other day and make enough for leftovers, it’s the only way to eat clean and healthy and save time! I hope you enjoyed these easy clean recipes. 21 Day Fix Healthy Snacks

It’s snack time! Yes, you should have snacks twice a day! They should include healthy fats and protein them and fill you up so your blood sugar doesn’t drop and your energy stays up. I eat a snack everyday at 10 am and 2 pm. I follow the 21 day fix portion eating plan, and by the way, I’ve lost 20 pounds and 26 inches and gotten to my goal weight with this flexible clean eating plan. I’m a health and fitness coach as well, and make sure to eat my snacks every day! But you can eat these snacks anyday, on any plan!

Are you wondering what you should eat for a healthy snack each day? Well, there are a lot of options, here are some ideas below on what I have recently eaten to share with you!

Apple with 1/4 cup Raw Almonds

Hard Boiled Eggs – An Easy Clean Snack!

Just put 12 eggs carefully in big pot of water with 1 tsp of baking soda and bring to a boil, then take immediately off the heat and cover for 10 minutes. Rinse them and put in fridge for the best food safety by keeping the shells on. Peel them when you eat them and they are a super portable snack! You can pair with fruit too for a great snack! BTW- 2 eggs count as a red cup (not green) on the 21 day fix plan!

Yummy Clean Wheat-berry and Steel Cut Oatmeal- Eat it for a Snack, Yes!

Here’s the recipe for an easy to make slow cooker oatmeal that I eat for snacks! Just toss 1/2 cup steel cut oats, 1/2 cup wheat berries or quinoa into a slow cooker with 4 cups unsweetened almond milk! Then toss in a dash of cinnamon, salt and 1 tbsp of pure maple syrup. Cook overnight on low in a slow cooker and you have totally clean healthy oatmeal! Yum! Serve with bananas or berries and pecans or walnuts and a little unsweetened almond or cashew milk! Makes a good breakfast or snack!

My Depression & Anxiety Clean Eating Story

I’ve felt really compelled to tell my story about anxiety and depression, ever since becoming a Beachbody coach. I want to tell my story because I’ve been able to manage it with a clean eating diet, daily workouts and super healthy nutrition. But it wasn’t always this way, I’ve totally struggled! And did you know over 18% of us suffer from anxiety in the USA alone? That’s over 40 million adults, which is a serious problem. But it’s highly treatable, and only 1/3 of us are being treated. And many of us suffer from depression as well, like me, over half of us that have anxiety are also diagnosed with depression. Source: adaa.org

My Anxiety and Depression Meltdown

I remember last November, I was sitting in my counselors office because Thanksgiving and the holiday’s were coming and I was totally overwhelmed. Like totally!  I sat there crying and breaking down sniffling with major tears! I know many of you can relate because anyone I tell this story to in person, half the time, someone tells me a similar story of anxiety/depression they have had. I’m a busy working mom and maybe if I was a retiree with lots of time on my hands and not so much to manage it could be better, but life is so so busy these days. I’m a full time working mom of two and married, with a dog, a big house to clean, it’s a lot to manage. It’s so common, it’s nothing to be embarrassed of and it’s real! I was sitting there crying because I didn’t have time to buy presents, manage my job, my kids, I couldn’t do it all. And I’m an intelligent, successful person, I have a great job, a great house, an amazing family and extended family, I’m so lucky. I mean I’m not living in poverty in a cardboard box, I have first world problems right? I logically knew that this thinking was crazy, but I couldn’t avoid it. It’s not something you can turn on and off when it’s happening. You feel like you are caving in, sinking in quicksand, you are going to panic, you don’t know what to do. It’s a real dark place. And everything, I mean everything around you drives you crazy. That bed not made, those clothes sitting out, you go a bit insane when it’s happening. Many people told me, “Oh Laura, you are so lucky, just be happy”. Seriously, that doesn’t work as your mind is not in the right place. And over 1/2 of people that have anxiety have depression too. I am one of those people with both, it’s genetic in my family and something I feel compelled to tell you about, because if it can help one person I’ve done my job! If it saves one life, like I’ve saved mine, or if this makes one person not feel alone, or have similar success that I’ve had with clean eating, it will really be amazing.

So back in November, my counselor and I talked about clean eating. We agreed, yes it can work! But is that really realistic for me? Nope it’s not we decided at the time, so I went on 75 mg of Effexor and threw out all my skinny clothes which were like 4 huge bag fulls of them in my downstairs closet. I had really given up and thought , I just need this medication. Like I said, it was the best option at the time, i was in a dark place.  It did help me and I recommend if you can’t control your anxiety/depression for clean eating or are in a really dark place, it might be the route for you. But please talk to your doctor, I’m not a doctor and don’t claim to be 🙂 It did help me get through the holidays last year. But… Yeah there was a big BUT for me. There are total side effects, and you have to weigh, are they worth the benefits? At the time they were worth it for me, but they were scary. If I drank 2-3 drinks, or maybe 4-5, I had a couple incidents where I blacked out from drinking. Very very very scary! I was at a neighbors house and literally blacked out completely and luckily my husband and friends saved the day. But that’s embarrassing and not fun! So that was kind of my rock bottom and when I became a Beachbody coach and decided to take control of my health, my fitness my weight loss, my eating.  I was running around the summer before wearing elastic shorts for crying out loud and spandex and that was also contributing to my anxiety and depression so I had to do something!!!!!!!!  And what I learned amazed me, I’m like a car, if I put crappy gas in, I get shitty gas out! (LOL). But if I put good, clean whole real foods in, that aren’t processed, my body knows what to do with them, it’s like putting premium quality gas in the tank and you get OUT what you PUT in.

How Clean Eating Managed My Anxiety and Depression

Well friends, I tell you within 1 week of clean eating and using Shakeology, I was so so so happy! I can’t tell you how happy, it’s like I was a new person. All this clean eating, lean proteins, healthy fats, just great foods were really helping. I was flexible, having healthy carbs and even a 4 oz glass of wine a few days a week and I was so so happy!!!!!!! I’m thinking hmmm, maybe there is something to this. Two weeks later the happy continued and the anxiety virtually disappeared and I talked to my doctor. She agreed I could try going off the medication and I did. And 3 months later, guess what I’m off the medication still! I’ve had a few glasses of wine and I’ve never blacked out and never gotten crazy from it. Drinking with anxiety & depression medication is really not recommended, they say just one to 2 drinks max if you do, but it’s a hard rule for some like me to follow because I love a glass of wine in a social situation. It’s super scary and my husband honestly is so much happier with me off the medication. I’m relieved because i’m NOT rolling the dice with having a couple drinks and what is going to happen! And I feel much safer and secure for it, and for my children! I’m hoping I can stay off and have every reason to keep up awesome clean eating, this is my life! My blood pressure is lower, i’m confident, my clothes are fitting and I’m finally taking care of me. And it is scary to share this story with you, hell yeah, but if I help one person, I am happy about it and feel it’s my duty to share this with the world!

So What do I Eat to Help my Anxiety and Depression?

So, I make sure to eat 5 times a day to help with my anxiety and depression and I eat clean, healthy foods that come from the earth. For example, I don’t like to buy processed foods, I prefer minimally processed. And I’m not perfect here but I try to eat clean 90% of the time. And this works for me, you have to see what works for you. Here’s an example day:

Breakfast: Shakeology (protein powder meal replacement with super foods and nutrition and amazing), blended with a 1/2 banana, ice and 2 tsp of peanut butter

Mid Morning Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs

Lunch: Mixed greens with homemade olive oil mayo, 1 cup of chicken breast shredeed, green olives, blue cheese and red peppers.

Afternoon Snack: Chobani Greek yogurt or 1/4 cup raw cashews or almonds

Dinner: Tilapia with olive oil, a mixed green salad, cucumbers, sweet potato and a glass of 4 oz red wine!

And from time to time, like once a week I have a cheat meal, maybe a cheeseburger or something fun out to eat with friends. This works for me and keeps me at bay!

Shakeology Protein Bites Recipe

Shakeology Protein Bites- Easy to Make in 10 Minutes!

1 Shakeology protein bite is 1/2 blue, 1/2 yellow and 1/2 orange portion control cup for 21 day fix and hammer and chisel plan!

Total time and prep: 10 minutes

Cooking time: none (isn’t that the best?)

Yield: 12 servings, 1 each

Portions (per serving): 21 day fix- 1/2 yellow, 1/2 blue, 1/2 orange

I just love this easy to make, no bake recipe that I modified from the Beachbody Blog*. It’s so tasty, I brought them out for the neighbors last night that all drink Shakeology and they absolutely loved them and my kids have eaten them and think they are so good too, win win baby!  Little do they know I’m sneaking in lots of brain food and nutrition into their systems!  I freeze them so they last a long time and pull one out to defrost for 5 minutes prior to eating, yum!

Shakeology Protein Bites Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate Shakeology (or other protien powder you have on hand, but Shakeology is the best nutrition wise!)
  • 1/2 cup organic old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-natural creamy cashew butter (or almond or peanut butter)
  • 3 Tbsp raw honey

Shakeology Protein Bites Instructions

1. Combine nuts, Shakeology (or other protien powder- like shakeology because it has stevia and lots of nutrients), and oats in a medium bowl and mix well.

2. Add cashew butter (I used trader joes cashew butter or can use almond/peanut butter) and honey; mix well with clean hands, spoon or rubber spatula.

3. Roll into balls about the size of a ping pong ball. I simply cut the dough in half and divided into 6 balls for each half to make it easy!

Practicing Gratitude for Health

IMG_8871Today I went on a 5 mile run while my husband took care of my girls and cut up fruit for our mother’s day/birthday celebration. It was a beautiful day and I noticed all the sights and sounds surrounding me. I saw a white squirrel, ran by the beautiful lake and felt peaceful running through a really small cemetery by the lake.  I’ve read that practicing gratitude can really improve your health and it’s so true! According to an article on Forbes, there are 7 scientifically proven benefits of gratitude.  Some of them include:

  • Improved physical and psychological health
  • Better sleep and self-esteem
  • Better mental strength
  • And more!

So lately I’ve been naturally just trying to think about what I’m grateful for and share it with others on social media or by telling them and it’s really helping me to be a super happy, thankful, well-rounded person. Try it, what are you grateful for today? Tell someone, write it down, like I’m going to below. This is what I was thankful for today!

  • The white squirrel I saw dart across me on the street on my run
  • Running by the lake, on all the secret roads
  • Maggie’s beautiful card and sign she made for mother’s day
  • Savannah’s lovely beaded necklace and beaded zebra I got for mother’s day
  • My mother’s day card from Kevin and the girls
  • My husband Kevin helping with everything so I could run
  • A really pretty rustic tin barn I ran by
  • Running in a peaceful cemetery
  • Having really great food for dinner and lunch
  • Seeing friendly faces in the neighborhood and on the boat
  • Getting my dog Goldie back from my mom’s, missed her!
  • My awesome mom on mother’s day
  • Seeing my dad and sharing my healthy cookbook with him
  • My awesome in-laws, brother, sister and law and nephews
  • Being a mom to 2 really great girls!
  • Being given the opportunity to be healthy, happy and feeling great!
  • And more, I could go on and on

Anyhow, I feel great after writing that all down and sharing it with you all! Try it for yourself, comment below and tell me what you are grateful for today!

Easy Kid’s Confidence Building Game

Want to play a fun game with your kids to sneak some confidence into their lives? I think all our kids could use confidence these days.  I was lucky, as a kid my mom and dad always built up my confidence, but even with that, being a kid these days is tough. You need as much help as you can get in today’s world! Especially when you have bullies and mean girls at school. My daughter Savannah got called fat last year in the 2nd grade by a girl (and she’s a beanpole, which either way it’s not right) and the girl tossed off her glasses. Also, my girls are really shy at times, which is getting better, but they are the nice and kind girls at school and they could use some confidence from time to time, so I’m trying to give them that as a mom. I made up this fun version of follow the leader at the park the other day and you should try it too!

Steps to Confidence Building Follow the Leader:

  1. Play a regular game of follow the leader, but each person gets a turn, including you! Let each person go for one minute and do every move they do following them in a line. Everyone has to copy everything you say and do.
  2. When it’s your turn, make sure to do some fun workout moves to get exercise in like kicks, jumps, a cartwheel. But then the fun part, yell things and your kids will copy you and make sure to shout them like you are shouting from a mountain top so everyone knows. Good phrases include:
  • I am awesome!
  • I’m a nice, kind person!
  • I help others!
  • I’m amazing!
  • I rock!
  • I can do anything I set my mind too!

Basically these are affirming statements, it’s kind of like the technique self-help books tell adults about to feel more confident and positive, they tell you to hang post it’s with these affirmation statements everywhere around your house. Well why not just shout them for the world to know?

What’s cool about this game is that your kids are shouting out positive things about themselves, and in turn making them more confident. And after I tried it and we each did a few rounds, they too started shouting out their own statements, which was so fun to watch.
